I live and work in Reno, Nevada
Portraits
I enjoy painting portraits more than just about anything. I love people and I find that to be able to create a likeness of another human being is very gratifying.
Nostalgia Portraits
Many people will ask me to paint a picture of them from a favorite photograph. The only way I will work from a photograph other than of my own doing would be to work on a photo from the past. I will work from photos from 1970 back only.
Landscapes
I started acrylic paintings of landscapes last year. And I love it. My "Off Nevada Road " series is an on-going project. My plan is to paint something off the road in every county in Nevada along with paintings from the series "I Love Nevada". Eventually I will publish a book about "I Love Nevada" documenting many Nevada citizens living throughout the state on why they love Nevada. This book will also include the paintings from throughout the state.
At present my travels throughout the state have stopped due to gasoline prices and a very busy graphics design business. I hope soon I will be out exploring the state once again.
Old Highway 40's Motels
Working on a coloring book of old motels with architecture from the 1960's back is just another project I am anxious to finish and get published. Highway 40 is an historic gem. The motels dotted along what is now called 4th Street are deteriorating fast. This once vibrant highway with it's many beautiful motels was the stop for many weary travelers who drove across the country with destinations to California.
Graphic Design and Marketing
I am also a graphic Designer by trade. I started out at Gray Reid's Department store as a fashion illustrator in 1967. I worked for Tyson, Curtis, Wilson Advertising, was Art Director for The California Chamber of Commerce, taught school children in the Washoe County school system through Sierra Arts Foundation, and was on the faculty of the University of Nevada Reno in Publications and Graphics.
I started a graphic Design Business in 1984, as Communication By Design and now have Wow! Design Marketing and work with Margie Enlow as a partner with nuDirection Graphic Design.
Politics
I guess you can say politics is now in my blood. My husband Wayne Melton ran for City Council against a 12 year incumbent. I ran 4 years ago against the same fellow. I did extremely well for someone who had never ran for a political office. In the primary I lost by only 25 votes in our ward. In the general where we had to run city wide we were very close. I had 48.26 percent of the votes.
I helped Wayne with his graphics, fundraising and general support.
Website
I am very excited about designing this website. I will continually update it and keep it fresh. Adding videos and trying certain various features to keep the website fresh.
